Following Jesus Devo Hero

Love Lifted Me – 1-14-22

So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, He was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted. Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. (Matthew 14:30-31a)

Devotional Thought
In 1912, a poet and hymn writer named James Rowe read the story of Jesus and Peter walking on the water in Matthew 14. He was inspired and wrote the following lyrics:

I was sinking deep in sin, far from the peaceful shore,

Very deeply stained within, sinking to rise no more,

But the Master of the sea, heard my despairing cry,

From the waters lifted me, now safe am I.

Have you ever found yourself in a seemingly impossible life and death situation? That happened to Peter after he saw Jesus walking on the water. He courageously stepped out of the boat, but his fear seized control of his faith, and he started to sink. Fortunately, in that moment, Peter realized his need for a Savior. He cried out to Jesus who “immediately” pulled him up out of the water.

Where are you today? Are you in a storm? Are you stepping out of a boat in faith or are you drowning in your own sin? Are you keeping your eyes on Jesus? Are you smothered by life’s problems? Are you sinking even as you read this? Wherever you are, cry out to Jesus. When you call out His name, He will come and save you.

Prayer Focus

Lord, thank You for saving me. Help me always step out in faith. Help me keep my eyes on You and not on the problems around me.
