Feet . . . have you ever really thought about how important your feet are? Our feet play an important role in our physical well-being. Physically, our feet will carry us the equivalent of five times around the earth in an average life span. Doctors tell us that our feet are mirrors of our health. Oftentimes signs of diabetes, arthritis, circulatory or even neurological diseases appear in our feet first. One foot problem can stop us in our tracks.
Our feet also play an important role in our spiritual well-being. The Bible tells us that God is concerned about our feet. He is not primarily concerned about what they wear or how they look, but where they go and what they do. God even thinks that some feet are very beautiful.
“But how can they call on Him (Jesus) to save them unless they believe in Him? And how can they believe in Him if they have never heard about Him? And how can they hear about Him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news.’” (Romans 10:14-15 NLT)
What kind of ‘good news’ can we share with others? Isaiah 52:7 gives us some insight: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of peace and salvation, the news that the God of Israel reigns.” Isaiah tells us that we should share the “good news” of the Lord’s peace. Have you received peace from the Lord in your life, a supernatural peace that sustains you even in the midst of adversity? Peace is something everyone wants but very few people seem to have. We can have “peace with God” (Romans 5:1) and the “peace of God” (Philippians 4:6-7) in our hearts and lives through Jesus, and that is really “good news.”
Paul begins in Romans 10:9, talking about how we experience God’s great salvation by putting our faith and trust in Jesus, and concludes that section by saying: “Whoever believes on the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13). Then Paul goes on to say in Romans 10:14-15 that people can’t experience God’s salvation, unless someone shares God’s gospel with them.
Both Paul and Isaiah remind us that the best news we can share with others is the “good news” of God’s salvation. God’s salvation is the most wonderful blessing and benefit in the world. It brings us forgiveness for our sins (Acts 3:19, Ephesians 1:7), life-transforming power (2 Corinthians 5:17), acceptance into God’s family (Ephesians 1:4-6), abundant and victorious life on earth (John 8:31-36, 10:10) and the guarantee of eternal life and a home in heaven (John 3:16, Romans 6:23). When we share the “good news” of the gospel, we are sharing with them the best news they could ever receive!
So, my question to you today is do you have “beautiful feet”? I look forward to hearing your story of when you shared the “good news” of the Lord with others.
